In 2004, LIMRA (Life Insurance Marketing Research Association) did a Life Insurance Ownership study and concluded that “One fourth of individual life insurance owners bought a policy without meeting face to face with an insurance agent, broker, or other financial professional”.
Furthermore, Sales through direct channels represented more than 20 percent of the policies, about five percent of premium sold, and 13 percent of the total face value in 2008 according to a new joint project conducted by LIMRA and LIDMA – the Life Insurance Direct Marketing Association.
LIMRA and LIDMA researchers estimate that over 2 million individual life insurance policies sold in 2008 were purchased through direct channels. In addition, direct response sales totaled $675 million in new premium in 2008 and total face value reached $233 billion. The number of consumers who bought insurance online has doubled since 2006. Price, convenience and a good Web site were the top factors that influenced these consumers. With advances in technology, researchers anticipate that more consumers—especially younger generations—will use direct channels to buy life insurance in the next 5 to 10 years.

The Underwriting Assistant will conduct the initial review of newly submitted applications for life insurance. This position requires frequent contact with inside sales specialists, medical examination technicians and life insurance companies' home office to obtain all outstanding pre-established and published underwriting requirements. The Underwriting Assistant will submit these new business cases to the underwriter's for risk assessment and evaluation based on the completed case file. The Underwriting Assistant is required to perform all administrative assistance and sales assistant functions as well. Underwriting Assistant will participate in the creation and ongoing development of the new business processes and implementation of new processes.
